The Wilderness Shop hires the same quality gear that we sell. We offer quality packs, tents, sleeping bags, stoves, sleeping mats, rain jackets, walking poles and baby carriers for hire. For winter activities, we have cross-country skis, snowshoes, crampons and ice axes.

SKIS AND SNOW GEAR HIRE
The equipment we offer has stable boot/binding systems that offer enjoyable skiing. You may be able to hire cheaper skis elsewhere, but we have seen many users struggling with inappropriate hire gear in the snow, leading to disappointment. Discuss your needs with us.
We offer several categories of ski equipment:
NBC: Skis are metal-edged wider touring skis with NBC (NNN BackCountry) boots and bindings. This system is user friendly and offers excellent stability. It is highly recommended for inexperienced skiers.
Premium Tele-Touring: Steel edged wide Telemerk or Backcountry extended touring skis with cable bindings and plastic boots. Adjustable poles make for more enjoyable descents. K2 skis have a non-pattern base, great for some resort telemarking!
Pre-booking: Equipment may be booked in advance by phone or in person. To secure a booking, payment for the full hire amount must be paid at the time of booking. This payment is refundable on cancellation minus an administration fee of $15 provided we are advised at least 4 working days prior to the pick up date.
Deposits: All bookings require a security deposit of $200. There is an additional $100 security deposit on the hire of PLBs. We reserve the right to increase the security deposit at our discretion. A driver's licence or other acceptable identification is required for inspection.
Care of Goods: Please report any damage or faults in the equipment on return. This enables us to keep the goods in good condition for the next person. We do not charge for fair wear and tear but a charge consistent with the value of the goods will be made if the goods are lost or stolen by any means whatsoever or are damaged by abuse, misuse or negligence.
Cleaning: All goods (except sleeping bags) should be returned clean and preferably dry. A cleaning charge of $35 per item will be made for goods returned in an excessively dirty condition. On no account are customers to attempt to wash sleeping bags. Should a bag be soiled, return it and we will arrange professional cleaning. A charge equal to the cleaning cost will be passed on to the hirer. Laundry of inner sheets provided with sleeping bags is our responsibility.
Weekend bookings: A ‘weekend booking’ is any two consecutive days. You may pick up the day before and drop off the day after as part of a weekend booking.
Week bookings: A ‘week booking’ is a period of seven days. You may pick up the day before and drop off the day after as part of a week booking.
Extra Day: An ‘extra day’ booking is a 24-hour period and only applies as an ‘add on’ to either a weekend or week booking.
Late returns: Late returns will incur a charge equal to the daily hire rate.
